Hi I've been using Autocad Electrical on and off for a couple of years but probably not using it correctly.I have a drawing project which I need to generate a BOM from (first time I've needed to do this). Report generates fine however all the descriptions are missing. I've sure this is because the cataloue information is missing but I'm not sure how to correct.

Most of my symbols are borrowed off other drawings or custom from symbol editor. I don't ever add them to the catalogue as I normally don't need to. Typically I'm only interested in the wiring schematics.Whats the easist way to rectify. I've tried manually adding descriptions in component editor but this doesn't work. The good news: it is not so complicated; the bad ones: it's a lot of work if you haven't assigned the catalog information to your components from the very beginning.1.

Right Click on your component, select Edit components.2. On the catalog Data area, click the lookup button, choose the part number/manufacturer, then assign an Item number.3. If you cannot find the Part Number of your component, you need to add it to the catalog, click on the edit catalog database button (the pencil).4. At the bottom of the list you will see an empty row, add your information there. You can also copy the information of an existing component an modify according to the real data.5.
Click the 'check' icon, select your item and then click on OK. Add the item Number.6. Repeat for every single component.
If you have other components with the same part number, you can also copy the component with the catalog information and replace the other blocks (use the autocad electrical copy clip command, not the default AutoCAD copy command)There are other tools that may help you at this point like exporting your drawing information to a spreadsheet and then import it again to refresh your drawings.
